Buildings and Streets

There were enormous modern buildings

next to tiny streets...

Parts reminded me of Phuket Old Town...

But others...

The small streets were the most interesting...

And happy people...

A tree and Spirit House

Just around the side of Che Chin Khor Temple and Pagoda was a

Spirit House at the bottom of a tree

and another one which was very old...

Che Chin Khor Temple and Pagoda

A dragon!

We found a roundabout with a dragon in the middle
- made from discarded metal parts.

Chinatown Gateway

The Chinatown Gate in the middle of the Odeon traffic circle marks the ceremonial entrance to one end of Chinatown. The gate is a relatively recent addition to the sights of the city. It was built in 1999 to commemorate the King's 72nd birthday, and celebrates the cultural diversity of the modern city.

Wat Traimitr Withayaram Worawihan - Visit 3

Wat Traimitr Withayaram Worawihan is a quite spectacular Wat - but it was not open when I visited...

The Wat Traimit temple in the Chinatown area of Bangkok is a Royal temple famous for the enormous gold Buddha image it houses.

The temple, which is officially named Wat Traimit Withayaram Worawihan and also known as “The Temple of the Golden Buddha” enshrines the massive solid gold Buddha image named Phra Phuttha Maha Suwan Patimakon displaying the subduing Mara mudra

Largest solid gold Buddha image in the world

For centuries the true identity and value of the image were not known, until by accident in the 1950’s it was discovered that the image was made of solid gold. The image is more than three meters tall, weighs some five and a half tons and is most likely some 700 to 800 years old. It is the largest solid gold Buddha image in the world.

Holy Rosary Church (@Talad Noi)

The Holy Rosary Church (Thaiวัดแม่พระลูกประคำpronounced [wát mɛ̂ː pʰráʔ lûːk prā.kʰām]), also known as Kalawar Church (โบสถ์กาลหว่าร์[bòːt kāːlāwàː]; from PortugueseCalvario), is a Roman Catholic church in Bangkok. It is located in Samphanthawong District, on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River. The history of the church dates to 1769, when a group of Portuguese Catholics resettled in the area after the fall of Ayutthaya; the current church building, in Gothic Revival style, was built in 1891–97 on the site of two previous structures.

Siang Kong Shrine

Worth making the effort to find.

I think I was at this place...

There are so many hidden places...

Sieng Kong or sometimes spell Xiang Gong and Siang Kong (Thaiเซียงกงpronounced [sīa̯ŋ kōŋ]Chinese仙公pinyinXiān gōng) is a neighbourhood in the area of Bangkok's ChinatownTalat Noi sub-district, Samphanthawong district. It is well known to most Thais as the car part and secondhand engine machine center.[1] It covers the area from Talat Noi, Song Wat to parts of Khao Lam, Tri Mit and Charoen Krung roads.

Its name "Sieng Gong" came from a small joss house called Sieng Gong, which settle on Song Wat close to Charoen Krung roads and today's Odeon Circle. The old joss house was established in 1854 (corresponding to the 4th year of Xianfeng Emperor's reign of Qing dynasty) by a group of Hoklo which settle down around there. The current location, in the past it was an area adjacent to a canal before.
